This innovative power plant simultaneously generates clean energy and protects the local environment, using waste wood from sustainable forestry in the Amazon as fuel.
The plant’s renewable clean energy from waste wood replaces electricity generated from polluting diesel generators and supplies 80,000 people. CO2 emissions saved: around 165,000 tonnes a year.
The project uses wood from a forest certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. This means that all logging and access to the 450,000 hectares of forest are strictly controlled to limit the impact. Rain forest is crucial, not only to preventing global warming, but to protect biodiversity so this local environmental benefit also benefits us all.
